The radical imagination of Le Nemesiache in the first international monograph curated by Sonia D’Alto
The first international monograph on Le Nemesiache, curated by Sonia D’Alto in collaboration with Marea Art Project, winner of the thirteenth edition of the Italian Council, and published by Mousse Publishing, has finally been released. Beginning on October 16, 2025, the book will be presented through a series of events across Italy and Europe.

Researcher and curator Sonia D’Alto, together with the artist residency and research program Marea Art Project, present Le Nemesiache: Reclaiming Mythological Rituals, curated by D’Alto. This is the first monograph dedicated to the feminist and artistic collective Le Nemesiache, founded in 1970 by the philosopher, writer, and multidisciplinary artist Lina Mangiacapre, and active primarily in Naples, Sorrento, and along the Amalfi Coast.
Published by Mousse Publishing and produced with the support of the Italian Council’s thirteenth edition, the book is the first monograph devoted to the Neapolitan group of feminist artists and pacifists Le Nemesiache, who developed an experimental artistic practice and a way of being in the world rooted in feminism, mythology, fairy tales, science fiction, and radical imagination.
The volume resulting from D’Alto’s extensive research and long-standing collaboration with several members of the group, as well as her work with Le Nemesiache’s archive (formerly the association Le Tre Ghinee) and the private archive of Lina Mangiacapre (Posillipo), is bilingual (Italian and English) and features unpublished documents, photographs, and posters. Special attention is given to images capturing preparatory or intimate moments, revealing the processual and collective nature of the group’s work.
Drawing from ancient ruins and the geomorphic Neapolitan landscape, and through a boundless exploration of women’s desires and dreams, the collective connected with international struggles and fostered an imaginative rewriting of reality.

The archival material is accompanied by historical, theoretical, creative, and political essays commissioned by D’Alto and written by Chiara Bottici, Federica Bueti, Cairo Clarke, Arnisa Zeqo, Giulia Damiani, Giusi Palomba, Elvira Vannini, and Giovanna Zapperi.
Alongside a reasoned chronology and a selection of archival fragments, contemporary reflections emerge ranging from ecological spirituality to the historical reconstruction of feminist solidarity networks, transformative justice, and queer artistic theories, extending also to the Southern Question and the Mediterranean context.
he goal of the publication is to make the work of Le Nemesiache known in Italy and, above all, abroad. The presentation tour will begin on October 16 at Villa Medici in Rome (6:30 PM), followed by MACTE Museum in Termoli (October 17, 6:00 PM), Centro Pecci in Prato (October 24, 7:00 PM), Museo Madre in Naples, EURO-MEDITERRANEAN ARTS in Naples (December 19), The World of Wom:en Foundation ETS in Rome, and Marea Art Project in Praiano (November 23). The European presentations will take place at NW Open House for Contemporary Art and Film in Aalst, Belgium (November 5, 8:00 PM), Ifa Gallery in Berlin (December 4, 6:00 PM), AWARE Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions in Paris (December 11, 6:30 PM), and Kunsthuis SYB in Beetsterzwaag, The Netherlands.
The presentations will feature the participation of the author Sonia D’Alto, who will discuss the book by retracing the collaborative process with the contributors and presenting a selection of archival images from the project, offering an insight into key moments in the group’s long history.
